DONORS - SPONSORS - DONATIONS

Establishment and completion of a carpentry school for youth training.

Dear Pastor Bujack.

Ladies and gentlemen, Thank you for the very kind and spontaneous conversations on August 22, 2025, and thank you very much for your time and your sentiments.

The establishment of a carpentry school in the village of Kikambala, in the Kilifi District, County, is a promising solution to the existing problems in vocational training in the region. The village of Kikambala is located approximately 30 km north of Mombasa; the journey there takes approximately 45 minutes by car.

In Kenya, the majority of the population outside of urban centers has never had or received the opportunity for vocational training. Most are unemployed. However, especially for young people, a good education is a prerequisite for finding decent work. This income is essential for securing a livelihood for themselves and their families.

Our aid organization "Children in Kenya" has therefore initially focused on the promising project of a carpentry workshop. Construction work began on March 2, 2015, and the foundation of the building has been laid.

CARPENTRY

The goal of the carpentry project is to establish a carpentry school with tools and machinery. Training courses will also be offered there in the future. The total cost is CHF 38,000. I was in Kenya in November 2024 and supervised the roofing of the carpentry workshop until completion. I was in Kenya again from April 18, 2025, to May 10, 2025, and installed windows and doors on the carpentry building.

The total cost for the roof, as well as installing the windows and doors, was CHF 11,000. In addition, the existing planer, which we received from the Canton of Basel, still needs to be connected, and further electrical work needs to be done. Finally, we would like to plaster the training center.

We estimate the expected costs to complete the project at approximately CHF- 31'042.35

For example, with a donation of 50 Swiss francs, they paid for three bags of exterior plaster, including installation. With a donation of 100 Swiss francs, they paid for a five-person, qualified team of mechanics for almost a day's work (installation of the machines).

Our goal:

The carpentry school in Kikambala offers 20-25 young people the opportunity to learn a carpentry trade. The trainees are trained in furniture and interior design, as well as construction and window manufacturing.

In the Furniture and Interior Design department, we produce custom-designed furniture, tables, chairs, and custom-made kitchen equipment, among other things. As a further result of the carpentry project, we are able to offer additional products and services. The proceeds from these sales are an important source of income, partially financing the operation and maintenance of the school.

On my own behalf:

The projects are personally overseen by me, Ms. Grene Schait, founder of the Children in Kenya association. Funds are paid directly to the project site. No money is passed on to local institutions or private individuals. Thus, 100% of the funds from donors, sponsors, and sponsors directly benefit our projects.

All work at the Children in Kenya Association is done on a voluntary basis. The costs for the club premises and infrastructure are fully covered by other activities of the association. No donations are used for these either. Thank you for your support. None of this would be possible without the support of our friends and sponsors, no matter how small.

Kind regards

Carpentry

In Kenya, the majority of the population outside of urban centers has no opportunity for vocational training. The association "Kinder in Kenia" operates a training center in the village of Kikambala. Currently, it includes a tailoring workshop, sustainable agriculture, a language school, and management and computer courses. New plans include the construction and maintenance of a carpentry workshop so that young people can complete a two-year carpentry apprenticeship. The project thus offers effective support for self-help and contributes to sustainable development.

Women's group

The women's group is an important project in Kikambala. The villagers meet regularly and receive training from professionals in hygiene, family planning, parenting, and first aid. These meetings promote social cohesion in the village, and the skills learned are passed on to the next generation by the mothers.

Agriculture

On the project farm on the outskirts of Kikambala, tomatoes, eggplants, cassava, corn, sweet potatoes, avocados, and mangoes are grown, which are sold at markets in the Kilifi District. The proceeds are used to pay workers, purchase new seeds, and support our other projects.

Water

On the project farm, groundwater was drilled, a well was built and a pump was installed. This now pumps drinking water, which the villagers can get by the bucketful for a small fee. It is also used to irrigate the entire cultivation area.
