Ms. Grene Schait-Maleko (Mama Massai) was born in Kenya in the Mara Massai, an arid region near the Tanzanian border. At the age of 12, she was forced into marriage by her father and had three children.

The «Kinder in Kenia» association was founded in 1995 by Ms. Grene Schait-Maleko in Basel and registered in the commercial register. The association's purpose is to improve the nutritional situation and healthcare in Kikambala, Kenya. It also offers apprenticeships in the project's own sewing school.

The people of Kilifi District still don't understand how important education is. Education is the issue of the 21st century. We know, more than ever, that those without education today will be jobless tomorrow. Society must not be divided into the educated and the uneducated, into the integrated and the excluded. Therefore, the education debate is no longer just about individual weaknesses or repair measures in an education system whose essential structures have proven themselves for decades...

Kikambala is a village with approximately 34,400 inhabitants located in the Kilifi District, about 30 kilometers from the capital, Mombasa. Our projects are being implemented in this village.
